As Structural Engineers-of-Record, MMSA provided structural design services for a new two-story building for the Jervey Eye Group. The steel-framed building is supported on concrete spread footings, while the exterior of the building is comprised of brick veneer backed with metal studs.
The elevated floor consists of concrete over metal form decking. The deck is supported by steel floor joists on the steel beam/column lines. The concrete slab provides a rigid diaphragm that transfers the lateral loads to the vertical bracing elements.
The roof system is comprised of a standing seam roof over 1 ½” metal roof deck over light gage metal roof trusses. It consists of both sloped roofs and flat roof mechanical wells. The sloped roof areas are comprised of light gage metal roof trusses at a maximum spacing of 4’ supported by steel beams and/or joists and columns. The flat roof mechanical well areas consist of 1 ½” metal roof deck supported by steel beams and/or joists and columns. The metal roof deck provides a roof diaphragm to distribute lateral forces to the vertical bracing elements.
The low mansard roof, at the building perimeter, consists of a system of light gage metal roof trusses and metal studs to form the mechanical wells. The mechanical units in the wells are supported by curbs bearing on the steel roof joists and metal deck.
