The Barnes Center, located on the Clemson University campus, was recently awarded the 2018 AIA Georgia Design Merit Award in the Renovation/Restoration category. As one of only four projects to receive this distinction in 2018, MMSA is honored to have provided structural engineering design and construction administration services as part of the Lord Aeck Sargent design team.
Originally constructed in 1904, the renovated barn is one of the oldest standing structures associated with the Clemson Agricultural Department and currently listed on the U.S. Department of Interior National Register of Historic Places. Previously used for housing dairy cows, sheep and livestock education, renovation of the languid barn allowed for the space to be transformed into a new, modern campus student center for both university and student activities.
